The level of violence and abuse in Red Rising is not too graphic but it’s intense. This could be epic if spun correctly, trite if not. Also, at some point, it’s going to be made into a film with the author writing the screen play. ![]() The last book in the series was just published this month, so I felt like it was finally time to indulge. There was a bunch of hype when this came out and I’ve held off reading it, partially because of that, but also because Brown made it clear that Red Rising was the first book of a trilogy. ![]() Even though the underdog to hero story has been told a million times, Brown’s first book is a strong effort and it’s gripping. Red Rising is Ender’s Game mixed with The Hunger Games in space. Let’s start with the first book: Red Rising This is his story and how he rises from the ashes to become one of the most powerful and influential men of his time. This is another really good Roman Empire Sequence book, and it is connected to (and a sequel of) Ides of April which is part of why I enjoyed it, though I still preferred Ides.īecause the Goodreads synopsis sucks, I rewrote it:īook follows a family, the father is a merchant and is gone at the beginning. ![]() ![]() ![]() Those ideas are as fantastic as they are dangerous, but the French are rampant, Lisbon is threatened and Christopher sees Sharpe and his riflemen as the only obstacles to his subtle scheme. Being a member of a Greek organization gives you the opportunity to become friends with those who wear your letters all across the country, it teaches you how to communicate with a multitude of personalities, it fills your calendar with events for your chapter and your community, and, as corny as it may sound, it gives you a house full of sisters to love you. The media has given fraternities and sororities a lot of attention in recent months for a few scandals, but by emphasizing these exceptions, Greeks are depicted as a set of stereotypes instead of individuals who come together to join a long-lasting organization. However, I want to make the point that there are always exceptions to the rule and emphasizing these stereotypes does not contribute to the efforts that many Greeks are making in creating a better name for the letters we wear. I’m not trying to claim that Greeks don’t party and are always your average, middle class citizen. ![]() ![]() Greek life offers so much more than what "Dirty Rush" projects. ![]() ![]() ![]() Joining forces with the handsome stranger in the cabin next door, can she protect those she loves?
